VALIDATION WORKSHOP OF A RESEARCH ON FACTORS CONTRIBUTING TO CHILD DEFILEMENT IN BUGESERA, GATSIBO, NYARUGURU AND KIGALI CITY

On 16th December 2021, Coalition Umwana ku Isonga “CUI” held a validation meeting of the research on factors contributing to child defilement in Bugesera, Gatsibo, Nyaruguru and Kigali City.

The research on factors contributing to the child defilement in Rwanda was initiated by the Coalition Umwana ku Isonga (CUI) in the framework of the “Strengthening Child Protection and SRHR in Rwanda”, a project funded by the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) through Plan International Rwanda (PIR). This project is implemented by 4 implementing partners (local non-governmental organizations) including Coalition Umwana ku Isonga (CUI), CLADHO, YWCA and HDI. Considering the conducive environment for child protection, underpinned by the adherence of the country to all the relevant international normative instruments which are domesticated through the national policies and laws and with a clear institutional framework, CUI sought to understand the factors contributing to the constant rise of child defilement cases.

The research interacted with female and male children aged 10 to 17, through a quantitative survey, and with victims of child defilement, their parents, neighbours and community leaders, adult and juvenile convicts of child defilement as well as duty bearers through qualitative interactions

The aim of this validation workshop of findings on factors contributing to child defilement was to gather all possible information from different stakeholders in order to contribute in the finalization of this research.
